2016 Annual Asthma Poster Art Contest

Breathe Healthy, Live Happy!

The Albemarle Pediatric Asthma Coalition (APAC) presented awards for the Fourth Annual Asthma Poster Contest. The top three winners were selected from over 1,000 posters submitted from all over the region. This year, all three top winners were from Currituck County Schools.

Caroline Boughn, a fifth greater from Moyock Elementary School, was awarded first place for her illustration of this year's theme of "Breathe Healthy, Live Happy!" that portrayed information about the disease of asthma and the perils of tobacco use.

Dr. Margaret Donohoe, chair for the APAC, awarded Caroline with a first place certificate, medal and gift card.

Dr. Donohoe presented the second place award to Sophia Burgos, a fourth grader from Dr. W. T. Griggs Elementary School; and Theresa Sawyer, a fifth grade student from Shawboro Elementary the third place award. The mission of the coalition is to reduce asthma morbidity and mortality for children and adolescents in the northeast region of North Carolina through a public health initiative. The APAC, which celebrated its 17th year, assists families, school nurses and providers in asthma management practices.
