2017 Annual Asthma Poster Art Contest

Kids With Asthma Can...

The Albemarle Pediatric Asthma Coalition (APAC) presented awards for the Fifth Annual Asthma Poster Contest. The top three winners were selected from over 350 posters submitted from all over the region. Poster paper and crayons were provided to participating schools.  Prize awards, first place $50, second place $30 and third place $20. 
Dr. Margaret Donohoe, chair for the APAC, presented the awards to the students.

Breanna Cooper, fourth grade student from Camden Intermediate School was awarded first place for her illustration of this year’s theme, Kids with Asthma can…    Ms. Elaine Blaisdell, art teacher for Camden Intermediate School also received a gift certificate.

Second place was awarded to Sarah Kelly, a fifth grader from Shawboro Elementary School, Currituck County School District; and third place was awarded to Catherine Howell, a fourth grade student from D.F. Walker, Edenton Chowan Public School District.  

The mission of the coalition is to reduce asthma morbidity and mortality for children and adolescents in the northeast region of North Carolina through a public health initiative. The APAC, which celebrated its 18th year, assists families, school nurses and providers in asthma management practices.

Thank you to the APAC members who volunteered to serve on this sub-committee and to the school staff; principals, teachers and school nurses who helped with the 2017 poster art contest.

Winners

1st place winner- Breanna Cooper, 10 year old 4th grade student at Camden Intermediate School, Ms. Elaine Blaisdell, Art teacher.



2nd place winner- Sarah Kelly, 10 year old 5th grade student at Shawboro Elementary, Currituck County Schools.



3rd place winner- Catherine Howell, 9 year old 4th grade student at D. F. Walker, ECPS.
